    Smile Gaboon Viper?

In the Picture Gallery a picture of a pet Gaboon Viper. "Interesting" pet. I'll stick to Horned Frogs.

    Correct trm is venomous

I would die if I owned one of these. Nothing will stop me from touching the cute toxic blood pythons lol.

I saw a Gaboon viper at a reptile show. Yes, they are pretty, but there are other prettier and safer snakes. I don't really understand why anyone would want one.

I don't think it gets any prettier then gaboons imo. They are one of the best looking snakes in my eyes. Some people keep venomous for the same reason as non venomous. The look of it, the behaviour ect. What I don't understand is why some people feel the need to play with these snakes just to show off. I have no problem with people owning these snakes so long as they are responsible.

Never owned any but after talking to people who have, they say that getting bit is completely avoidable. Their are just lots of idiots out there.

To me Gaboon Vipers are the most beautiful of all the reptiles. It is not that big of a risk if you know what you are doing.

Most bites are not deadly for at least the first bite. Venom is costly for the snake to produce so it does not want to waste it if the prey is too large or if the oppresser is not a potential food source. They can regulate between a deadly bite and one that will make a predator or human think twice next time. So I'm sure that if the Gaboon is used to the owner that if it was to strike and land a bite it may be a warning but the problem with keeping a snake in a terrarium is that it is near impossible to not make them feel cornered and threatened. Playing with a deadly pet is irresponcible and a bite is deserving.

I see no reason to own snakes like these unless you are in the field of collecting venom for antivenine. People that get bit and die for playing with a deadly pet like this are just fanning the flames on all the bills out their seeking to ban our hobbies.
