My tomato passed away today and way before his time. He died while prolapsed for the 3rd time. The first time, I isolated him, did a sugar water bath and kept him on a thin diet. About a month later, he prolapsed again and within 30 minutes of me noticing, he pulled it all back in. Now a week and a half later he prolapsed, I isolated him again and did the sugar bath, lubed him up too. He wasn't getting any better so I had a vet appointment booked for him for tomorrow but he didn't make it through. I kept his humidity up in at least 60%. I had an alarm set for 3 AM so that I could mist him and make sure he was doing good. I fed him dusted crickets once every week-week and a half. What could I have done differently for next time when I wish to adopt another little guy? I will answer any questions too.
I'm very sorry for your frogs death! Crickets should be same size (or smaller) than the distance between the frog's eyes. Larger ones could cause problems. Night crawlers available at Walmart and bait shops are great food. Will need to cut from pointy end into mouth sized chunks for babies, body length ones for juveniles, and the adults can handle full worms
.
What was your enclosure substrate? Anything in there that frog could eat and cause intestinal issues (i.e. sphagnum moss)?
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
So very sorry, Keanan.
It's ,so terribly, tough to loose them![]()

MY condolences![]()
Thanks for the condolences guys.
I kept him in 'eco-dirt' the entire time and I would add some moss every once in a while. Like I said, I also had an alarm set for 3 AM every morning to check his humidity and make sure the temps were good. He seemed to rarely come out of his cave and if he did, he hid where no one could see him. I have acquired a new frog now and he is quite the frog. I didn't know that about crickets, thanks for that tip. I know I gave him fairly small crickets but there were a few bigger ones here and there.
