    Default Scared of crickets?! :P

The main reason I don't have a frog anymore is because of the live food you have to feed them.. it may sound silly, but I am really scared of crickets. I had my fire-bellied toad for only a few months, but I finally found him a new home because I could not stand to give him those creepy crickets and mealworms. I love frogs so much, and i want another one really bad because they are great pets and I love to care for them, but I don't think I should get another one because of my fear of bugs. Is there any type of frog that does not have to eat live food? I doubt it, but I thought I would check anyway. Or is there a different type of insect I can buy/catch besides those nasty crickets? What about normal worms? Thanks for any advice.

You could go with dart frogs or mantellas . They eat flightless fruit flies, which are very easy to culture. Otherwise, sorry, no. frogs hunt based on movement, and since dead things don't move...... :-)

    Maybe you can use this:
Exo Terra : Vivicator / Vibrating Feeding Dish
This way you can use canned food.

Are you afraid of roaches? If not you could start a roach farm and replace crickets with those. Bill's idea to keep small frogs that feed on wingless fruit flies will work for you if roaches are an issue.

Also; you can keep aquatic frogs like African Dwarf Frogs or the larger African Clawed Frogs. Those two will eat live or frozen food (worms, crustaceans, etc.) and even prepared pellets like ReptoMin. Another aquatic frog is the Budgett's frog. That one is larger still and will need night crawlers as it main diet. Good luck !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

These things rarely, if ever, work for frogs. They are meant more for certain lizards.

I keep both a Pacman frog and dwarf African frogs and I have found that the powdered pac man frog food actually will not dissolve in water. (once it has been mixed and sits for 5 min)
I found this out when I had to force feed my next door neighbors pack man frog a looser mix of the packman frog food and loaded into a large syringe.
and had some left I just squirted into my aquarium with my frogs and fish and it looked like a long worm and all the fish and the frogs went nuts for it.

The makers of the food claim that you can raise packman frogs from tadpole to adult with this food exclusively.

I'm not really that scared of roaches, so maybe I can try that. Thanks for the suggestion!

I also have a well established breeder colony of orange spotted dubia roaches.
That I got from one of the other members here. Yoshi.
They are really easy to keep and take care of.
What I have found to work the best for me is a 20gal plastic storage bin that is opaque
and doe not have any kind of texture on the inside walls.(very smooth and shiny)
    The roaches can't climb it.
Hopefully you don't live in florida some of these roaches are not allowed there.

A old heating pad that has a manual control.
I use a zoo med hygrothem to control the heat but you can use any kind of thermostat.
    The like temps 80-90s
I use a synthetic sponge for water and home air conditioner filters as places for them to hide.
Get the cheapest ones you can find. that don't have any metal in them.
Most of them are fiberglass and won't rot or mold.
I cut the paper off so it won't grow mold.
Mold is really bad for the roaches.
I feed mostly oats and cat food. and occasionally put in few leaves of kale or cucumber pieces as a treat.
You will need at least 5 females and 2 males to start the colony.
It will take at least a month to see some babies that will be about 1/8in
Wait at least another month or so before feeding any nymphs.
you will need at least 3 to 4 months to get the colony really established.
Carlos has a link to a good thread on care and startup of roach colonies.

I love the roaches for many reasons.
    no odor like the crickets.
silent, they don't make any noise.
    They don't bite or fly.
The males might flutter their wings when falling but no flying.
    They are easy to catch.

    Good luck.
