Default Sonoran Desert Toad flipping over

Hey guys I have a Sonoran desert toad named Benjamin franklin. He's pretty awesome, but lately he's been flopping over whenever I change out his water dish. He hops away and flops over on his back and freezes up. I have never seen anything like it before. Anybody got any ideas? Also he has what appears to be a beer belly haha. His stomach is round when he sits upright just like a beer belly. Is that normal?
