New to the forum, so hello to all.
Recently Iv'e been building a waterfall to put into my exo terra viv and have noticed that I used a silicone which is not safe for aquariums,
annoying I noticed after finishing and getting ready to paint it!
It's been left to cure for probably over a month now as I had to put it to one side due to college work, I'm wondering if I seal it after painting will it be safe for my frogs?
Hello and welcome to FF Ronnie ! Well, if you used a mildew resistant silicone, there is always the possibility the sealant could fail. Silicone is a bad base for anything and sealant could lift off at any time. My recommendation is to remove all the silicone and replace it with the aquarium safe (100% silicone) version... sorry.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
I constructed my background by siliconing various different size and shape poly pieces onto a sheet of poly and then used habcrete to cover over it all, so I cant really remove it as it would destroy my waterfall.
Just checked and it says nothing about being mould resistant or for kitchens and bathrooms
The stuff is Unibond general purpose silicone sealant
It's only safe to use only 100% silicone. It stinks that you've done all that hard work. I guess you could think of it as a practice? We've all do e our fair share of oopsies when creating viv's and decor.
