After writing my last post on the other thread, something terrible happened while feeding. Ellie fell out of the viv, 1,50m on the ground which is semihard/soft, there's pvc laid out on wood.
She knocked her head on one of the wooden poles the rack is standing.
She fell almost unconscious, came slowly back and recovered from the k.o. after 15minutes. But it seems she broke her right forearm, she can't move it, so she crouching on the other three now. She still was hungry and ate her typical amount of locusts and zophobas, I had placed in front of her.
She is looking well again, has clear open eyes and no signs of anything else then the forearm.
I held her and it seems its her shoulder bone, since both arm parts seem intact.
I am feeling so bad for letting this happen, I tried to catch her but couldn't. It breakes my heart.
Has anyone any experience with such an injury???
Will it heal?
Is there anything to do? I mean I don't think the arm could be stabilized or is this possible?
Please, please help me, its such a mess. At least she isn't injured more and looks well...
Thank you very much,
olli
I will call a vet, there are 3 handling reptiles in the next big town, hope anyone of them might help. But since its xmas, I guess no one will be there tomorrow...
Did you manage to find a vet? How is your toad doing?
Sorry we missed this one. Sounds like front leg got injured in fall; but only an x-ray will show damage extent. Make sure you are giving it calcium supplements during this time and let us know what veterinary stated. Good luck
!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
Thank you for your answers.
I am supplementing Calcium anyway.
Still have to call the vet. They(the specialists)are all on cmas/new yrs. holiday.
Ellie is doing fine with the leg/arm, she's avoiding to fully use it, but does well. Eats and looks good.
She's lying on the heatstone the whole time anyway, so I guess it gets the timeto rest and heal.
I mean even if the xray shows the fracture. There is no way to treat a toads leg, is there?
Does anyone have any experience with a bone fracture of a toad or frog?
Will call the vet asap and hear what he says.
Thanks again for taking care.
Love, olli
Hi Olli,
It is likely the vet could reset the bone if it hasn't already started to heal in that position. If no infection starts, they can live with injuries and disabilities if cared for. In the wild they could more easily be caught as prey. Are there any open skin areas? Does the leg have any movement at all or is he just protecting it? Can he hold it up? Or is it limp?

No open damage. And Ellie can jold it, just don't fully stand on it. When I hold her, she even can move her fingers. Maybe its just sprained.
Will let you know. Thanks again!
She might be okay once it heals then.

Keep missing this thread updates. I'm very glad she recovered well
. When I read about toad wriggling her toes knew things were going well.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
Yeah, she's 100% back to normal. Though I just found that she is a he
But I searched a bit in panic all internet and couldn't really find much, so thats why I opened a new thread about it, if someone searches toad broken leg in the future, he/she will get to this here and see that even after heavy fall like this, the leg will eventually heal and all is well again, after only 6 weeks...
Thanks, love to everyone. <3
This is great news!![]()
