Why are reptile lamps so ugly?!

Are there any pretty lamps out there? Something that looks like a regular lamp?

They are designed to be efficient handling and channeling heat. If only using to hold a fluorescent, CF, or LED bulb; you can use pretty desk lamps as long as the bulb is over the tank screen and the lamp is rated at or above the bulb's watts.

I would not recommend using any incandescent or heating bulb in a lamp fixture not designed for it due to fire hazard. However, you could paint the domes with any paint that can handle heat and make them prettier that way. Good luck !
