hi i am thinking about getting an invert but not a scorpion, tarantula, stick insect or mantis as I either don't want these or already have them i was looking for something like an alien arachnid e.g whip scorpion/spider or a beetle with a life span of 3 years or over any suggestions would be much obliged [please leave links to care sheet and places that sell animal to the u.k]
D. Diadema and M. Giganteus would be my votes, haven't keep either myself but plan on getting both sooner or later

2.0 Bombina orientalis
1.0 Bufo americanus
0.1.1 Ceratophrys cranwelli
0.1 Xenopus laevis
All my arachnids and other inverts listed in my profile
Of the two Matthew listed, my vote goes to Mastigoproctus giganteus, the Giant Vinegaroon .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
thats the one i was gonna go for because my mum isn't comfortable with me having a scorpion or a t so it's perfect. housing wise this is what i have come up with please add some items or tell me otherwise if theres anything else: large exo terra breeding box (because they look better than faunariums, flat breeding box), a heat mat, a piece of cork bark to dig into substrate to create tunnel hide, shallow exo terra water dish, fake plants and a mixture of rocks moss and coco husk for substrate.
My experience with coco husk and tarantulas is a negative one. Not sure how it will work out for this guy; but would rather recommend a 50-50 mix of soil and shredded coco (Plantation Soil or EcoEarth) .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
Paraphrynus mexicanus, scolopendra centipedes, flame-leg millipedes, rhino beetles (though this one is not really long-lived)
One species i really enjoyed as an invert working with
are tailless whip scorpions (Amblypigy spc)

1.0.0 Correlophus cilliatus
2.1.0 Bombina orientalis
0.1.0 Ambystoma mexicanum
0.0.1 Ceratophrys cranwelli
1.0.0 Litoria caerulea
1.1.0 Dendrobates auratus "Nicaraguan"
0.0.2 Dendrobates tinctorius "Azureus"
Does any one have some non arachnid suggestions (trying to think of all possibilities ) and could suggestions have life spans of two years or above things like beetles leaf insects and some good invert breeders
African giant land snails or giant water bugs
What about crickets katydids etc (that don't bite)
I don't know what the import laws on animals are in the United Kingdom but in the United States it is against federal law to import Giant African Land Snails. Here in the Juneau area we have the Banana Slug. It gets about 8-10 inches long. Various species are in California, Oregon, Washington , British Colunbia and Southeast Alaska. I kept one for a little while years ago. Fed it dog food, carrots and romain lettuce. Then I let it go where I found it. Some interesting books on Amazon about this slug. If I am not mistaken the largest slug in the world is found in parts of England. That species gets to be 12 inches long..
It's illegal in the US because they're a pest. It's too cold for them to survive in England so that's not a problem, I fact I haven't been to a exotic pet store that doesn't sell them. Why isn't your mum comfortable with vinegaroons or amblypygids, despite the fearsome appearance they are harmless...unless your a cricket.
You can yurt find a cricket that doesn't bite, that's like looking for a lion that eats grass. There aren't any more common arachnids available if you can't get scorpions, spiders, vinegaroons or amblypygids. You can't get a centipede because you have never had an invert that bites or is fast before and you want something long lived. That pretty much narrows it down to assassin bugs, millipedes, predator beetles or crabs, some of these can be good for beginners.
Some good predator beetles are anthia sexguttata or anthia duodecimguttata but they live 2 years on average and most of this time is spent as larvae and pupa so you pretty much get a few months out of the beetle but that's all it needs to breed.
Actually domino beetles or anthia sexguatta can live three years on average but found on one forum a six year old one
No on average they live two years and as for that one living six years I find that extremely hard to believe. Also it's Anthia sexguttata not anthia sexguatta.
