i really want to get my boyfriend a tree frog for his birthday. the problem is i have NO IDEA where to go to buy such a thing. ive checked the web sites of generic pet stores (petco, petsmart, etc.) but none of the sites say whether or not they carry amphibians. where can i buy tree frog?!!
i really need to know, and soon.
i live in chicago and am willing to drive fairly far if i know for sure the store has what i want.
please! any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
You can check with the Chicago Herpetological Society - http://www.chicagoherp.org/ I am willing to bet they would know where to go. There is also a store in Orland Park. You can also try Kingsnake.com classifieds.
What kind of treefrog do you have in mind?
Yes, the kind of treefrog you want really will effect what you need to do to look after it and how hard that will be.
You can try up at the Chicagoland animal hobby expo. www.allanimalshow.com. I go to every show and there is always a wide variety of treefrogs available. That show is located in Wheaton, IL.
What about mail order??
http://www.reptiledepot.com/
Mail ordering animals works. Though, I must say it's best to pick up your animals in person. It reduces the risk of death during transit and you get to see the actual animal you're getting (not the best one of the batch that the vendor posts pics of). There's another expo today, Sunday, in Summit, IL at a school. If you're in that area it might be worth checking out. Also, frogfest is a good show to find treefrogs, but I think it's only held once per year.
