    Default Hi there

Hello everyone, my name is Michelle and obviously I am new here! I live in Colorado, about 15-20 minutes outside of Denver. I've often found myself searching this forum for tips on how to care for my frog so I figured, "Well hey, I'm here enough, might as well sign up!"

I am a proud new mommy (yes, I consider my frog to be my baby!) of a baby Whites Australian Tree Frog named Loki. I have always adored frogs and collected anything frog-related I can find. When I was about 10 years old I did try to raise two Whites (at different times). Everything but feeding them (my parents feared I would have problems getting them in the tank and we'd end up with crickets all over the house) was my responsibility, but unfortunately I managed to kill them both. After the second one died, my parents refused to let me get another one, mostly because it left me devastated when they died. I must admit that I think what happened was that I wasn't keeping up with the humidity and/or water dish enough and well...we all know what happens then. For several years now I have pondered trying to raise a frog again and I recently decided to go ahead and just do it. I decided to get a Whites again because I adored them before. It's really fun and exciting because I am much more aware and interested in what's been going on with him than I was as a child. At times I have been getting a bit paranoid about the humidity because of my past experience and it seems like his tank is not holding humidity very well, so I mist it often. I also freaked out a little bit when I watched him shed for the first time because I thought it looked like he was choking on something and I wasn't sure what to do (information on this forum helped me through that near panic attack).

Anyway, that's a little bit about Loki and myself. If any of you fellow frog owners have any advice for me, a semi-new owner, I would love to hear it. I am hoping to provide a healthier, happier life for my little frog than my 10 year old self did!

Hello and welcome to FF Michelle! Here is a link to a great article on White's: Frog Forum - White's Tree Frog Care - Litoria caerulea. In the case of these frogs, humidity is less important than good air circulation and anything between 50-65% should do, as long as Loki has access to a daily cleaned dechlorinated water bath. The 85F basking spot to sleep under is a necessity too.

Gut load the frogs insects with fresh veggies (carrots and lettuce) and cereals (oats and cherios) and remember to dust food with supplements and all should be OK with Loki. Good luck !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

    Welcome to the Forum!
Glad you came here and hopefully got the info you needed.
We also love seeing pictures of your new baby and success stories.

I will offer this pice of advice.
Use a glass bowl buried into the substrate so the lip edge is level with the substrate.
I also made a magnetic shelf that holds a small opaque glass bowl that I put feeders in.
since I have three frogs and one is a real piggy.
It made it out of a turtle dock and drilled 4 small holes on the edge that holds plastic coated
rare earth magnets that are epoxied into the holes.
and I also used a hole saw to cut out a hole big enough to hold the bowl.
I serves two uses, a feeding plat form and a perch.

I try to vary their diet some.
I do a rotation of crickets, dubia roaches , night crawlers , pinky mice (once a month as a treat, my frogs go bonkers for them.)
I a dust every other day with calcium+D3 and once a week with multi vitamin. (not on the night crawlers since most of the minerals are in salt form. and salts and worms don't mix well)

I am a engineer by trade and love figuring out problems.
I.E how to keep an eye on on elf my babies.
I have a small IP camera in the enclosure that I can remotely access and listen in and talk back.
    Since I travel so much.
