Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and am glad to b on here. I have an Albino Pac-Man frog named Al Croaker that has been very healthy and taken care of well. He/she has a veracious appetite and eats a lot of crickets in a week. Earlier this week I noticed a bump protruding from his backside near the glory hole. It was round and under the skin so I thought he had a HUGE terd cookin. After a couple days the bump has been getting bigger and I fear that it is impaction. I tried to feed him the nite b4 last and he only ate 1 cricket. If he hasn't left me a present when I get home then I think I will call the herp vet, but I don't have the extra $$. I will if I have to but if anyone has any ideas, or info please let me know. I will take a pic and post later today. Thanx,
One last thing.... How do I check what Al's gender might be??
Hello and welcome to FF! First please read this and make sure the enclosure parameters and other care details are correct: Frog Forum - Pacman and Horned Frogs - Ceratophrys - Care and Breeding. Second; we need a clear photo depicting the bump you mention. From description, that "bump" could be something else. Also, when was the last time your frog pooped?
If frog is impacted; the normal treatment is to stop feeding. Then prepare a bath with 80F dechlorinated water and a couple drops of honey in it. You can use a small critter keeper or a plastic bowl with a holed up top to administer bath. Fill it with honey solution to frog's chin depth and cover container with a cloth to help frog relax and maintain temperature. Do soak for 20 min. and then do a "rinse" in 80F dechlorinated tap for another 20 min.
If frog poops; remove from soak and place back on it's water dish. If it doesn't; repeat honey soaks daily until it does. Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
