    Default problems?

I've had a single fbt for a couple of months now. Last week I added two more. They are slightly smaller than the original toad, but not much.

I've noticed that the two 'newbies' spend almost all of their time up in the corner of the tank, on the substrate, while the original toad stays in the water (he usually did). I'm also hearing a lot of vocalizing. I'm wondering if he is somehow being aggressive and keeping them out of the water? Is this possible? Could he have become territorial of his 'pond' during his time alone?

Of course I'm making the assumption that the vocalizations are due to distress, maybe it is quite the opposite...

Here is my vivarium. It's a low 15 gallon, lots of room for the 3 toads and hiding places.

Do you know which are male or female? Maybe the sounds you are hearing are mating calls?

No I don't know. I'm fairly new to the species so I have a bit to learn. I'll try to figure out sexes. I'm hoping it is a mating call I"m hearing, that would mean happy toads

They ones that make the barking sound are males, that's for sure. You also have more than enough hiding places for your toads. The new ones are just taking up their new surroundings, and they will be fine after a week or so. Make sure to leave them alone and they will take a dive into the water when they are up to it. About figuring out the sexes, you can only be sure about their gender when they are mature. Males tend to be a bit smaller than females. Also, males make the barking mating sound. Not very load, but very entertaining listening to. Males also have a different form of front legs.

Thanks for that info. It is a barking sound, not too loud at all. I sort of like it My husband hasn't even noticed it yet, the toads are in my office next to the bedroom....I figure he thinks it's a dog barking outside, haha.
