Hi as I had one of my green tree frogs put down at the beginning of the week, im looking for a replacement. I have seen a grey tree frog and a white tree frog at my pet store, would it be ok to get them to mix with my green tree frog? and do they need any additional looking after? thanks in advance x![]()
Mixing of species is bad news.
Different species have different husbandry needs and also have different protective secretions. Adding two different species together, even if both have the same husbandry needs, can stress each other out. Never a good idea. Adding another of the same species is your best option. Be sure to quarantine any new animal for at least 30 days to prevent contamination of any other animal or tank. It also gives you time to monitor how the new frog is doing and it's eating habits.

Thankyou very much for your reply. I will take all of that on board x
Since you recently had to put down a frog, I would actually wait at least a month before taking home a new one to put in the cage with the one you currently have. You do not know what could be hanging around in your cage currently that might infect any new frogs you take home.

I agree with LLL Reptile and Heather about taking your time before adding a new resident. It's a valid and wise precaution.
I will also add (and here's where I get unpopular with the orthodoxy), that I have kept grey tree frogs with american green tree frogs several times over the last 30+ years with very good results (see my avatar). I am not the only one with this kind of experience though others may try to convince you to the contrary.
I would not however add the White's to your mix. Different environmental needs and they get big!

So sorry for your troubles you had with your frog
This is the best advice, Jen has given you.
Keep a very close eye on the the remaining frog.
I would be VERY tempered to remove the remaining frog to a QT tank, and completely disinfect their tank.
Your new incoming green tree frog needs a separate QT tank for a minimum of 30 days.
Instructions and information regarding QT are in the 'stickys' on the "Tree Frog" FF pages:

Best, Keep us posted
