    Default Help! Sick frog!

I've had two tree frogs for almost a year now. I have a whites tree frog and a white lipped tree frog.
About two months ago I started noticing my white lipped frog had lost a little weight. But then thought it was my imagination as his weight stabilized again. Now again he's lost a lot if weight and has gotten all these white marks all over him. When he does his regular shedding he would bleed in some places. So after noticing this I started soaking him daily in lukewarm water. This helped and he was shedding better and had a good appetite. So I started leaving him one again. Then he started downhill again bleeding when he shed and I noticed he would go to the water but not soak. Why would this be? My other frog is doing great! He's actually gotten a little too fat!
    anyone have any suggestions?
these first two photos were taken mid December when he first started bleeding while shedding

The pic with two frogs, he is on the ground. That was when I first got them. The pic with a single frog was him today after his daily soak

    Hi
I am so sorry to see your frog is having problems ?
If he were mine I would get him to herp vet if there is ANY broken skin.
IMO...any broken skin... at any time ...needs an antibiotic / instructions for a topical treatment

In the meantime use neosporin or bacitracin on any broken skin ( obviously torn and/or bleeding )
Try to find cream vs ointment, if possible.
WARNING: do not use the neo or bacitracin that contains pain reliever as this could kill your frog.
Don't get it near his eyes.
As mentioned, it's best to talk to a vet about this, as the vet will have the best treatment.

    I would remove him from the tank > into a quarantine/hospital set-up.
Use plain - dampened paper towel for substrate- dampened with de-chlorinated water -OLNY
Separate all tank mates for now.

I would get him into a nice long soak. De- chlor water only !It the very cleanest soaking dish possible.
Boil a glass dish and let it cool !!!!

some soak and QT help here:
    http://www.frogforum.net/tree-frogs/...-supplies.html

I would completely breakdown the tank.
    The tank itself and everything in it needs to be sterilized with a VERY VERY diluted bleach solution;
then soaked in clean tap water and with -Rinsed with ----- lots and lots and lots of - de-chlorinater added to the rinse water to assure all the bleach/chlorine is removed.
    rinse rinse rinse !

cut and past...answers these questions here/ in this, your thread.

Is there any possibility of an exposure to any kind of chemical?
What do you clean the tank and the water bowl with ?

Does this always get worse after a shed?
Is the humidity maintained ....it looks dry.
It appears to me the humidity could be less than 50% ? So, hard to tell from the photos.

If this is a Litoria infratfrenata, as it appears to be.
    Are you using UVB lighting?

Specifically ....what are the current/ and typical temp and humidity levels?

I am not a vet. My first gut thought is...... this is a shedding problem?

    Best, Lynn

Dont have a herp vet nearby.
He seems to be doing much better and the white spots on his skin start to dissapear when being regularily soaked by me. Just dont understand why he wont soak himself. Where his legs are easily submerged totally when being soaked the white marks have gone away completely. and as long as i soak him regularly he doesnt bleed when shedding.
The other frog has still been doing excellent which seems even more strange to me.

I was thinking shedding problem as well. It just seems strange to me that he doesnt want to soak himself. As long as i soak him he seems to get better.
Also, I wanted to add some live plants to their tank, but am unsure what plants would be ok to have in there. Any suggestions?

Here are the answers to your questions
1-size of enclosure 25 Gallon tank
2-# on inhabitants - specifically ( if there is another frog ---size differences ?) 2 frogs. White lipped tree frog and a whites frog. both same size
3-humidity unknown. going out to buy humidity gauge.
    4-temp around 80
5-water - type - for both misting and soaking dish tap water treated with 'Reptisafe'
6-materials used for substrate frog approved substrate. Says 'plantation soil' on wrapper
7-enclosure set up i.e. plants( live or artificial) wood, bark etc -how were things prepared prior to being put into the viv 2 wood hide outs, 1 fake branch with lots of fake leaves.
8-main food source crickets, dusted regularily
    9-vitamins and calcium ? ( how often ) repti calcium 2x a week
    10-lighting natural heat lamp
11-what is, specifically, being used to maintain the temperature of the enclosure heat lamp
12-when is the last time he ate saw him going after crickets last night
13-have you found poop lately find poop. not sure which frog it comes from
14-a pic would be great ( including the frog ) any little cell phone pic is fine
15- how old is the frog unknown
16-how long have you owned him 10 months
17- is the frog wild caught or captive bred captive bred
18- frog food- how often and if its diverse what other feeders are used as treats crickets about 3-4 days a week
19- about how often the frog is handled only handled to soak him since he got sick. otherwise only to clean tank
20-is the enclosure is kept in a high or low traffic area very low traffic area

No possibility to being exposed to a chemical. I am very careful of that and have 2 dogs in the house so try to avoid them anyways
To clean the tank i use water and vinegar. very diluted. and wait for it to completely dry before returning them to their home
I mist them twice a day and the humidity has never been a problem. but am gonig out to buy a humidity gauge as soon as i can.
    And yes to UVB lighting.
