My Pyxie's been uninterested in activity as of late, even for her. For a week or so she was all but completely buried with her eyes closed. Napping? I'm pretty sure she was trying to aevistate even though the humidity is kept at a constant 74-80%, the temperature a constant 80 degrees, and even gets 12 hours of light by way of a 15W house bulb.
Lately she's been awake ever since I dampened the substrate, seeing as it was getting rather dry on the top layer (I use a humidistat-rigged humidifier to keep the air humidity high) so I thought it was time to try feeding. Her last meal was a week ago, on 12/30, only 2 nightcrawlers (her appetite's been going down as of late, too). She pooped the next day.
She didn't want to eat tonight. No interest at all. I always place her in a bare Sterlite box for feeding because I don't like the idea of her ingesting substrate while trying to feed in her cage (unless she's wading in the water at the time, which incidentally I can't remember the last time she used, though it's still changed daily). All she does now is sit in one place day in and day out.
I'm not particularly worried though, as she's still pretty plump. Could all this be because she can sense the barometric pressure of winter even outside her constant habitat conditions? At least that's I've heard they can do. I'm pretty sure she's already tried aevistating a week ago, but couldn't because it's never cool nor dry enough in her cage for it. I think I should also mention my power went out last night for a couple of hours and the temp in the room dropped down to 61 degrees, though she made no attempt to aevistate even then.
She also has a substrate change coming up, which I think I'll tackle tomorrow.
As they get older they will sleep much more and eat less. Not eating much for a week isn't uncommon, but I would keep a close eye on her. For a few months now my male has not used his water dish at all. The only time he gets in it is if I put him there. He will eat once or twice a week. Usually a small mouse or he will eat about a dozen Night Crawlers per sitting. If she appears alert she should be fine. They can sense winter is here so activity and feeding will be less.
Mine slowed activity and feedings too. Now he eats around half his normal amount or even less.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
Well thanks for the info. But not long after I placed her back in the habitat, she started going under. She's completely buried now, which says to me she just wants to sleep. So I'll let her.
My big boy Senor is doing the opposite, he's been a beast lately! He's 1yr 2mo old. But he's not a borrower so maybe that's why. Ever since he turned 10 months old he's been 100% aquatic, only going on land to eat. My younger male is a borrower and he has been slowing down over the winter. My tiny baby hasnt though lol!
