Default New frog in the forum - meet Buddy!

Hi, my name is Casey, and my friend in my profile picture is called Little Buddy.

Buddy is a wild white lipped tree frog who I've had since 29th Dec, 2013. I'm hoping to release him as soon as possible but until then I shall be taking care of him.

I live in Tropical North Queensland, Australia, so a life amongst tree frogs (and the dreaded cane toad) is as much a part of life for us as it is taking the dog for a walk to the beach. Needless to say, accidents happen, as in Buddy's case.

In the early hours of the morning on the 29th, I was driving up my driveway when Buddy decided to make an appearance and jump across the driveway. I swerved to avoid him but unfortunately I felt a light thud through the cars frame, which could only mean one thing - I'd hit him.

I quickly looked for him to see if I had splattered him and found the stunned little bugger just sitting there, seemingly unharmed, or so I thought. Upon closer inspection I found I had popped his eye. What used to be his eyeball was now a hanging stringy mass of eyeball matter, that looked kind of like a plastic bag caught on a wire barb on a windy day. I could see the back of his entire eye socket...oh ****!

When I checked on him the next morning I had found that he had somehow reformed some sort of eyeball, which I think is awesome, but with me still being concerned for his survival I arranged for him to visit the vet, who gave him the all clear except for permanent blindness in his now little black marble of an eye. They asked me if I wanted to pick him up to release him or if I wanted him to be put to sleep. Naturally I said I would pick him up, because I have seen frogs with only one eye thriving in the the wild and so I wanted to give him a fighting chance and not an immediate death sentence for something he could survive. So I took him home and set up a temporary "Buddy Rehab Centre".

Since collecting Buddy, I have found this forum to be an invaluable wealth of information. So from the bottom of mine and Buddy's hearts...

...THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Welcome to the forum . What a cutie! If I were closer I'd adopt him for you. Any thoughts of keeping him? He would fair better pampered and with food provided since his vision loss. Though, many animals also do fine with ailments. Just a thought...
