Hi Guys
Thought id put some pictures of my Frog on here....
My Heat Matt is on the bottom of the tank but only half and half (advised in the pet shop) Frog seems healthy and fine with it (eats 5 crickets a day and a pinkie mouse once a week) However he is only a baby but not sure exactly how old. :/ There is a cricket in 2 of the pictures as he was chasing in round at the time.
Let me know what you guys think
Josh
Hi Josh, He looks great!!
Switch the heat mat to the side of the tank. Preferably where he spends most of his time. You will run into problems with the mat on the bottom. Pacs like to burrow down in the substrate; and with the mat on the bottom he can, and will get badly burned. It also dries out the substrate. Sorry, but pet stores are not the best informed on these pets.

Pinkies should only be given as treats once a month due to their high fat content. More often than that can lead to serious health issues

Yep mice should be given no more than once a month. Also go ahead and cover three sides on the enclosure to reduce stress levels.
Hi Im in the UK too , heat mat at bottom is fine. I have been doing this over a year . As long as you use thermo to keep temps set You are fine. On another UK forum there are peeps saying They cannot get temps with heat mat on side, and frogs move around. As long as you are checking frog wont get harmed. Temps should be 80-85 day 76-79 night as a guidline. Having mat on the side wont get this in the UK . I even have to use a ceramic heat bulb on top of mesh of exo terra he is in, or my temps are under 80. Love the pics he looks great!
I will agree with Mchell43
you just have to be very careful and place a temperature sensor under the substrate above the mat and
make sure the temp does not exceed 75F
Remember these frogs burrow to get cooler.
I also have to do this but I went a step further to make sure my babes bottom doesn't get burned.
I placed the mini heat pad on a ceramic tile that is slightly larger than the pad.
and place it under the EXO terra and under the ceramic heat emitter to help keep the warm side warm.
and I have it on a thermostat set to 75F
My 2.5in STV male will pick almost the middle of the enclosure almost every time to burrow down and wait for his next meal.
My pacman has an under tank heat mat (with thermostat and sensor) and he's very happy, your frog is beautiful btw
