Was wondering if anyone from the frog forums own any DBTs or similar aquatic turtles. And how do they like caring for them?
turtles are cool and neat to have but require room becuse turning in a shell takes space. if you dont have a good water filter it can smell pretty quick too. handleing is key when young so they dont see you as a preditor when it gets big as well as its "beak". they are cool and fun to watch though.
Only aquatic turtle that I have kept were red eared sliders (5 adults). RES's are amazing as far as behavior go's. Very funny animals that think they are gonna be feed all the time. But they are ery messy. A good filter is a must.
I wouldnt say "handling" is the key to get it use to you as no tortoise/turle likes to feel helpless. I would say interacting is the way to go, like feeding from hand.
Thanks for the advise! Ive done a fair amount of research. Not as much as my pacman frogs, but decent. Im tracking 10 gallons per inch of shell. And two to three times the filtration per minute per gallon of water thats used. I do plan on hand feeding from a young age.
