Hey, I'm just thinking about getting a frog for my desk in my home office/study. I have a 5 gallon tank that I used to use for a goldfish and shrimp so I was thinking about a fire bellied toad - since I moved the fish to a larger tank in my book case. Also considering newts... Or really anything on the amphibian side of things. Something pretty to look at that'll add some life and greenery to the room.

I'm a pilot and a charity worker, I love collecting and smoking tobacco pipes, and I'm a major foodie. My favorite thing to do on a weekend is load up a few friends and fly to lunch somewhere.

I had a poison arrow frog about 6 years ago, but sadly he didn't live much more than a few months. I was far lazier then. Working for my uncle in construction kicked that out of my system, haha. I also think I had him like a 2.5 gallon tank - which is almost depressing to think about (poor frog!).

I was in Petsmart the other day picking up a new corydora ( had a feeding problem and one of mine died :[ ) and a dwarf frog. I have two dwarf frogs now. I got the second a few days after the first because he looked lonely - now they're both having fun playing in the bubbles that my air stone puts off. They also enjoy chilling out with my two ghost shrimp under my turtle statue, or kicking my corys in the head. I saw the fire bellied toads - and they just looked so adorable.

I'm here to get some more information about beginner frogs - which ones are the easiest to take care of, eat the least, and need the least cleaning. No - not being lazy - I just want to make sure I'm not getting in over my head.

I'm also wondering if any frogs eat anything that isn't - an insect. I can deal with feeding live insects, but if I'm ever in a situation where I can't for a bit, can they eat anything like ghost shrimp that I can put in the water in a semi aquatic tank?

Yes, they will eat shrimps, fish fry and anything moving that will fit their mouths

Two of my fish died - including one of the dwarf frogs . I'm suspecting ammonia levels... Time to add another shrimp and change my feeding regiment

Hello and welcome to FF Anthony! I'm sorry for the frog and fish loss . A small unfiltered or not cycled aquatic habitat can become a toxic environment if not handled properly. Recommend you search for "aquarium nitrogen cycle" and document yourself to avoid further pet losses. Good luck !
