The castings I use are store bought and I initially got them for the plants. These castings contained some leftover worms/eggs and now I have a small worm colony living in my viv. The worms do a great job of aerating the substrate and eating up dead plant leaves! I also like to think they provide my pacman frog with a bit of company when he's buried deep down in the substrate.

Or a bit of food. (lol) If you take some out its not difficult to make a DIY worm farm, and its a great way to get rid of veggy scraps. ~michael
