Default New beat up 55 gal.

I brought in a new beat up 55 gal yesterday that has good terrarium potential. Choices, choices....Upgrade my cresties from a 40 gal?, set it aside for later and house frogs/toads?. I was seriously considering a cane toad at the reptile show and this would be big enough to house one( I think?).
I don't think it would be useful as an upgrade for my salamanders because they stay on the bottom and I have them in a 30 gal wide.

I would do fire bellied toads. I know they are not exotic but they are so social! think how cool you could make it!!!! (just a thought) ~michael

It's an idea, I saw a whole tank filled with fire bellied toads at the last reptile show and they were cheap too.

what are you planning to do with it (more water more land) live plants fake plants the possibilities are endless! I just like FBT because they are small and social and active. (I might need to get some I haven't had them for a long time...)~michael

I just bought a used 55 gal tank yesterday too from another reptile site. I am adding two divider pieces of glass in the center, making a middle water area that will be 6" deep there is also a plastic covered metal shelving cut for a center divider that will go thru the water area. Then there will be an 18" coco fiber area with a hide and a fake fern on each end. One side will be the AFB Male, and in the other side is the Female Marine Cane toad. They cannot get to each other, though they are both pretty much the same size, yet it houses them both, one submersible pump filter for the water area, a medium heat pad on each end under the 4-6" of coco fiber. Broken flower pots stuck down in the dirt for hides. So not having to deal with two different aquariums for heat, moisture, cleaning etc. I will post pictures when I get finished with it.

Hmm, well I should probably choose between the fire bellied toads, the red eyed tree frogs and the cane toad in that case. Sure show me your pics. I probably won't do much with live plants with the 55 gal setup because it'll probably be in the basement /dark place.

At best I would have a single florescent light fixture with a grow lux type bulb. I've tried growing plants in a basement before, you need a lot of light. I had a plant die off that polluted my whole tank before.

pothos would do fine in that light situation (i think) They don't need almost anything to survive and their cheep so if they did die it would not be a loss. your tank is going to look great ~michael
