Both my male and female (rarely does it anymore) plays dead. I think it's a defense mechanism they use when they are younger, my male is only 4 months?! old I believe and he's getting big.

=) He's "dead"
My frog does the exact same thing when I walk by unannounced too quickly! I like the enclosure by the way![]()
Tell them that your gonna get a necropsy doen on them.![]()
Lol! It is funny when they do that. Something tells me that the really large males don't play dead anymore.![]()
My big guy still does this. He has a relatively large and deep water area, and he'll dive down to the bottom and stay that way if you scare him enough. Maybe when he gets as big as me he won't be scared anymore
I don't think they are playing dead, but hiding. In their native Africa, those temporary pools are very silty and brown; ducking down under the water when a threat is nosing around, and they'd be invisible.
Sounds about right Glenn. Good call.
I was at my desk and I heard a splash - it was my frog climbing into its water dish, and of course when I go to investigate the frog quickly enters "stealth mode" and somehow vanished!
*dont mind the water, it was clear just before the frog decided to take half of the substrate in with it![]()
Lolol. They just let us think we are the smartest animal on earth![]()
haha derp derp
