    Question Is my frog obese?

I've had a frog for about a year and a half and he just seems huge. His little arms seem sorta swollen too. I don't know if he's starting to get old so he's sort of obese and I need to put him on a diet or if he's sick.

I might just be an overly concerned mother who didn't know her baby was going to get so big. But better safe than sorry :/

Him on the thermometer, good for size comparison.

Him on a pretty big leaf. First one is the leaf he's on with a nickel for size comparison plus a good one of his arms

He looks healthy and normal to me. If he suddenly became swollen looking with other behavioral issues I would wonder if something could be going on like edema.

Those pictures are what I thought looked sort of swollen. So if he looks normal that's good! His behavior is about the same. He tolerates me as his 'mom/cricket lady'.

The only odd behavior lately I've noticed is him moving his head and opening his mouth in kind of a shedding motion, which may have just been shedding but I washed my hands and felt his mouth and it felt normal so I just shrugged it off as shedding but I never really saw shed around in the tank, do they eat their shed like other reptiles?

But I mean he had a fly piece of dog hair on his back and i got a sterile q-tip with some spring water on it and he let me sit there and poke at him to get it off and then when I did he went off on his way. So he doesn't seem any jumpier or anything..just seems like his hands are huge..but I mean I guess he's pretty big.

He's just my baby. I've had him since I started my love with reptiles/amphibians. He was my first and I'm so scared I guess because he's starting to get older. The leaves are starting to bend under him..which is why he sleeps on the thermometer now. I need to get him some sturdy branches. He's so big haha.

    Thanks everyone!

Here's another picture of how big he is. I guess he's just growing up!

They do eat their shedded skin, or sometimes you will notice a strange clearish substance on the side of their tank when you do a cleaning.

When a frog is shedding they do eat most of it but sometimes you can see bits stuck on what ever they are sitting on at the time. I see bits on the glass every now and then. If Frogs are unwell they tend to stop eating (unless they are hibernating) so that's a good indication that something might be wrong. It looks to me like your doing a wonderful job looking after him. He looks very healthy.

Frogs are not reptiles! It's one of John's pet peeves when some refers to frogs as reptiles. Frogs are amphibians. Their classification breaks down like this -

    Kingdom - Animalia (animals)
    Phyllum - Chordata (vertebrates)
    Class - Amphibia (amphibians)
Order - Anura (frogs & toads)
    Suborder - Neobatrachia (advanced frogs)
    Family - Hylidae (treefrogs)
    Subfamily - Hylinae (treefrogs)
    Genus - Hyla
    Species - cinerea

Oh and the frog looks ok to me.

He looks healthy to me. How many crickets do you feed him at a time? If anything "Titan" my bigger white's dumpy is obese. He eats 3 large crickets each feeding and he's like two months old.

He eats small crickets probably about 5 or 6 small crickets. He's a chubster but I guess he's just a healthy growing boy
