    Default ACF / ADF care

Hey all, yes it's me again!

I have been working on a care sheet for ACFs and ADFs...could you check it out for me and critique it?

you can look at it on my page at http://africanfrogs.weebly.com

I am trying to spread the word in my community about how to care for the little guys, and it seems like now adays everyone has internet access, so I figured an online caresheet works better than a tangiable paper one!

Nice web site! I read over the information you provided for ACFs and it looks good to me. You may want to list out the sources for your info, even if it is your own. It is a way to add credibility to your site. I have been keeping Xenopus for over 30 years, but don't know much about ADFs though.

Terry is the man when it comes to Xenopus and the other Pipids.

Thanks for the replies! On my fish forum I became known as "the frog lady" but I gladly give up my title here!! I can't tell you how great it feels to find this forum!!

I have been keeping ACF since I was little...but each frog was either kept singly, or we always lucked out with groups of the same sex...

I have been feeding them a mixed diet of reptomin pellets like always, but am supplementing their diet with bloodworms and earthworms....

doing nearly daily water changes, about 30%, replacing with water about 15 degrees F cooler than the tank temp, then shutting off all lights and leaving the room....

no eggs yet....I am getting ready to play some Manilow over here!!!

they amplex frequently during the day....

anything I can do to help encourage some egg laying?

Yeah, stop playing Barry Manilow and play Barry White!

A friend of mine bred these years ago. He said he dropped the water level, he might of also raised the temperture a little to simulate the dry season. When he raised the water level, he said he was up to his eyeballs in eggs.

whoops!! I mixed those two completely different singers up, huh? hahaha

thanks for the water level tip - - I just fed them so some messy bloodworm and beef heart....i need to do a water change anyways to suck of their left overs (with a barebottom tank....it looks SO messy!)

maybe i will leave it low for a few days and see what happens

Very nice caresheet on ACF's. I feel it thoroughly covers all of their basic needs.

thanks, they do get 1-2 earthworms each at a feeding...I usually chop them up into 1/3s, make it easier for them to be gulped down, and this way i can clean the "dirt" out of the worm first.
