From my experience...plan for 50/50 usage. Mine are all over the place and I see them less in the water then on the glass, the plants, or the background. Mine also always perch in a dry spot for the day cycle.

WOW and thank you!!! I feel absolutely honored that my tank is your inspiration. I commented back to you on my thread about my pool.

Size: 25.9 KB here is a rough sketch.
If I had posted my HORRIBLE pictures of my rough drawing of my build, it would have been identical to this drawing. HA!!!

I will caution you about the weight of the lower pool (well pools in total) and proper support of it. That was a huge concern with my pools and something to think about.

Let me know how I can help, if you need it!!!

Thanks I've built a bunch of tanks with pools before just supported by GS this time I'm going to use egg crate. Thanks for the tip about 50/50 land. Maybe I'll rethink the cave if they don't use it and yes they lay their eggs close to the aster on sticks or rocks. Hoping to start this tank the first week of December.

What plants or algae did you use in the small pools and the shallow swamp are?

I have java moss and hydrocotyle in the waterfall areas and crypt species in all of the bog areas.

I have no luck with some plants so these are the ones that are currently doing well. I do have an ariod, a creeping fig sprig or two, and one other plant that is escaping me at the moment that is also growing on the back wall as well.

So I have an idea how many pieces if egg crate did you use, and did you cover the egg crate with weed paper or mosquito proof screen. I figured weed paper since the screen would be underwater.
