So right now I have an 18x18x18 vivarium with plastic plants for 1 green tree frogs ( since both females died recently). I just got another 18x18x18 and a 24x18x24 exoterra vivariums. For now I'm thinking to build the 18x18x18 but still don't know what species of frog to get. I was thinking to get or a pair of Hyperolius marmoratus or Agalychnis callidryas. I really love their colors but prefer the retf because they are a little bit bigger. I'm also still undecided if I do a planted tank or not. What would you recommend? If you know any other beginner/intermediate tree frog species post. Do you recommend a planted tank for a beginner?

If you really want to have a planted terrarium, go for it! ive started out with some planted terrariums that are thriving and all you need to do is provide proper lighting and spot clean poop. Red eyed tree frogs would be suited in a planted tank, Lynn & Heather k best. the terrarium size sounds good. Other tree frogs that would be an intermediate species would be maybe big eyed tree frogs or golden tree frogs.

I am partial to white's tree frogs myself. 18" is a bit short for a tree frog, they prefer height, but it is doable.
A planted tank for a beginner? Absolutely! Just stick with basic, common plants until your skills improve and you should be fine.

Thanks for the help. I'll try to find a list of plants that I can use and are good for a red eye tree frog.

For an 18 in. cube, would recommend one of the smaller tree frogs or a ground dwelling Dart/Mantella type frog. If you think about it; once you add substrate deep enough for plants and drainage layer, can end up losing around 4 in. of height, even more if false bottom is involved.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
If you do a planted vivarium definitally go to blackjungle.com , they have a lot of awesome stuff
I have 3 adult Whites in an 18x18 cube for a year now and honestly, They haven't told me this but they appear very, very happy.
