Default Shelf/Rack system finally built and done! Early bday present to myself! HEAVY on PICS

Well, I decided I was tired of having all my animals sitting on desks and in different rooms etc taking up so much space. So I decided to just build a shelf/rack system for my snakes, frogs, and chameleons. Hope you guys like it. =)

The beginning, I should of taken a pic of the crappy "desk" thing that was in there before.

Some progress, and starting masking to paint. I decided on a semi gloss black, with the non voc paint.

The rails installed so the shelves pull out, for easy maintenance for changing water bowls, feeding, etc.

    Started some painting...

Thanks, I love my animals. =) They are all trios, besides the pyxies which I do not plan to even attempt or think of breeding. I have a male pygmy cham i'm getting tomorrow. Three hognoses. Three boas. =) One bearded dragon. =)

I really like this and would love to have a shelf system built into my animal room to hold all of my tanks as well! LOVE LOVE LOVE your hognose's!!! I have a male and he is just the sweetest snake I own. So question...what is the largest tank you have on this and what is the heaviest?

Thanks everyone. The heaviest would have to be the male pyxies tank. Just due to the amount of substrate he has. I'm just guessing it only weighs 50-60 pounds, purely guessing though.

Little overgrown atm. I need to do some trimming and going to add air plants to the back ground. Every plant in here is alive, except the moss died. Any suggestions on a moss or ground cover anyone?

This is when it was a little less overgrown.

Oh, I missed a part of your question, three of the tanks are 20 gallons L. I will probably upgrade the size of my male pyxies tank.

To be honest, it was awhile ago and I can't remember what kind it was.

Lol understandable. There are plenty of ground covers you can use. What's the soil like under there? Dry? Moist? Boggy?

What did you use to join the end supports to the uprights? I'm looking at it and thinking oooohh that's a lot of weight on those supports.

Three inch deck screws to the studs. The rails can take 100 pounds of weight as well, as well as using a lot of brackets.

Cool. I figured you built it well. Otherwise a recent post would have been the "I just had a disaster happen post" lol I wish you had taken close up pics if the rails.

Nope, I failed on that pic.. =\

Edit, I've been not a master carpenter, but decent for a good amount of my 30 years of life. I weigh about 175 and could prob sit on a shelf.

Or maybe I am a master carpenter now..you know jesus was a carpenter...lol.
