The bottle plastic must have been exposed to heat or it aged naturally thru time (or too acidic water)
Try rinsing it with diluted vinegar and rinse with cold, tap. If it doesn't do the trick then get another one.

nope it is not normal from treating water, do you want to just get a new one? that is what i would dolove pump spray bottles for plants, 6$ and you are good to go for long time!
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
