Petsmart Pacs
Anybody ever get a pacman from petsmart that has grown to full size and lived a long and prosperous life? I ask because I've acquired three pacs from petsmart in my life. The first died within the 14 day period. The next one I received for free died after two months. The third I bought lived for only two years, grew large, but had to be force fed! I'm not a bad owner, (all frogs I've acquired from reptile shows grew very large and lived long) I'm just wondering if anyone has actually bought a healthy pacman from petsmart?

Re: Petsmart Pacs
I have bought Amphibs and Reptiles from Petsmart and PETCO, some did well and some didn't. I have also bought Frogs from Mom and Pop Shops and Breeders that didn't do so well either but I have had much better success from Breeders or shows. But what's nice about Petco and Petsmart is the 15 days guarantee that most breeders and Mom and Pops don't give you.

Re: Petsmart Pacs
Honestly, avoid any WC frogs. I've learned my lesson the hard way. I own 4 CB frogs and 2 WC ones and the 3th WC one passed today, after owning it for 2 months and trying everything possible to keep it alive.
I also notice the growth of my CB ones is alot better, so if your looking for a healthy, happy, nice looking frog... Avoid the WC ones.
I fully agree with Gary, stick to breeders who know what they are doing, but forgot about a warrantee. Warrantees only need to be offerd on animals people aren't certain of, a healthy frog doesn't need it.

I have 4 from Petsmart. If you get them within a week of them arriving there they are fine. One is 3 years, one 2.5 years, one 1.5 years, and last is about 2.5 months.

Hi, it is illiegal to inport animals from Argintine so all the Ceratophrys cranwelli's we see on the market in the US are CB.

Brazil is the country with the law agaist exportation of their animals. As long as they are gotten outside of Brazil's borders it is not ilegal, but very expensive to import from other countries.
You are right though. All babies on the market of C. cranwelli are CB.

Then I wonder how it's possible for me to own 2 WC cranwelli's. The stores both came from even admits they are WC, so I don't get it. Might be because I'm in Belgium?

Its Brazil. They have had the law in place since the 1960s.

Cranwelli are from Chaco region. Ornata are from Argentina, Uraguay, and Paraguay. Aurita are from Brazil.

Re: Petsmart Pacs
Now I'm really confused Grif or did you make a typo? "You are right though. All babies on the market of C. cranwelli are CB." Or did you mean the American market? Because a local pet store still gets shipments of WC cranwelli.

Yes, but cranwelli specifically are called the Chacoan Horned Frog and Ornata are known as the Argentine Horned Frog. Is this a debate over who knows more about Horned Frogs or something?
Hynotic- The majority of all Horned Frogs in the Pet trade are CB. There will occationally be WC specimens appear for sale at some Mom and Pop stores. Big Chains usually deal with a breeder or wholesaler who aquires their frogs from a breeder. Note that wholesalers will aquire WC as well sometimes. It is difficult to tell from the babies, but WC adults look much different than those that are CB.

Actually; the "Gran Chaco" is encompassed by Bolivia (Eastern), Paraguay, Argentina (Northern) and Brazil (Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul states) .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

Their ranges all cross except for a couple of them.

What a specimen! He's beautiful! My pac that did make it past two years was around 150 and he was all brown but I loved him all the same
