I have 10 gal. tank setup for raising fruit flies and my culture is going very slowly. I have that special wood fiber media in there and I feed them, I read fruit flies thrive more at higher temps. It's 60F here.
Wow, you're using a 10g tank? Can you describe more about the setup? What media you use, how you portion out the fruit flies, ect.
Yes, they prefer higher temps. 78* or so. This may help:

It's cracked tank I can't use for fish, so it's open for raising feeders. My hopes was to raise a nice batch of fruit flies and not happening. Simple setup of wood fibers sold for fruit flies and then I toss in somewhat spoiled fruit for the fruit flies to eat. I already have a heating light on order for my crickets( which also won't breed due to temps)...Since I'd rather not buy more heaters, I wonder if I put the fruit flies tank next to the cricket tanks.
Think you would be better off culturing flies in the traditional ventilated plastic cup with medium (Repashy makes a nice one). If your room is 60F, need provide them a warmer environment, like keeping cultures in a tank with a heater bulb or so .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
