    Unhappy Dyed Frog?

I had heard that albinos could come in different colors, but the more I think of it
It seems like my albino had been dyed. He(I think "he") has grown a bit and what I had thought to be a natural color was starting to fade in some areas.
I suppose I feel better that he doesn't have red leg and it's just the dye fading, but I had absolutely no idea that people did this to animals!
Luckily he seems really healthy and likes to swim, hang out in the fake plant, and go in/out of the terra cotta pot. Also his appetite is good.

I did see one member that bought dyed frogs accidentally as well. They seemed to have no ill effects and just went to their natural color after a period of time.
Has anyone successfully raised a dyed frog? Are they more likely to get disease or have other health problems?
So far my experience says "no" and it is just the initial process which is cruel and probably isn't very healthy.

I doubt somebody dyed the frog. Are his eyes red?

They do seem to be red! It is kind of hard to see, but his legs look much more like a classic albino frog while his body seems to be a different color. I would think disease, but he has been in a stable environment and seems very healthy.

Can't tell if your frog was dyed; but yes, both ACF and ADF are dyed and even tattooed . Both processes are painful and a health risk to animals and fish suffering them .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

Yeah, I did a quick search on google and found that they do inject or dye the frogs and many don't live through the process. While I feel horrible about ignorantly contributing to this trade, I am at least glad to give an animal love, care, and a good home.

I just bought an ACF and the pet store also had "painted" frogs for more money. The lady who was working told me they hardly lived long and that she'd make sure I wouldn't get one because I got an Albino. It's hard to tell sometimes. Maybe call the pet store and ask them if they sell that variety?

It was sadly, from a dollar store. It may be hard to find out exactly where they got their frogs. My goal was just to get them off the shelves and provide a good home for them.

He seems healthy, just a bit smaller. I feed both of my frogs reptomin and brine shrimp pellets. He seems to like the sinking shrimp pellets more, but that's all I've really noticed about him.
I think I have had them both for about a month now! Maybe a little less.

There are some more pictures in my albums if that helps anyone in ambiguity

Why in the world do people do this? It's cruel and while I expect poor treatment at the dollar store (where I picked them up) but a pet store SHOULD know better.

Unfortunately they sell well, so pet stores will keep ordering them in as long as somebody's buying

Wow. I had no clue they did this to frogs. This is sick.

Eli, if your frogs eyes are red then its safe to say you have an albino. Unless they dye the eyes too?

They look more like a golden color, a bit brighter than my natural colored frog. It is just hard to tell in some lighting!
But if he has golden eyes, should he not be an albino?

Also does anyone know if this causes lateral line issues, or maybe he just prefers the sinking food?

Anecdotally I've heard that males like to be bottom feeders, while females like to feed at the surface?
I almost would believe it because they are starting to show size/shape difference (cecil looks like a "typical" male while carlos is plumping up and getting more pair shaped). Cecil usually swims around the bottom and scavanges, while Carlos just kind of waits for the food to fall and swims up to grab it, where as I have never seen Cecil do this.
