What is this in my humidifier?

I havent used my humidifier in a couple months and was about to set it up again but while cleaning it I noticed some stuff in it.

Any clue on what it is? It feels like broken glass but does not look like it.

Turns out it is limescale.

What kind of water are you putting in it?
Tap?
If so, switch to distilled.

Yeah I'm using tap, but I believe the minerals in tap water do not lift up with the vapor which creats this limescale at the bottom of the filter (right?).
