    Default Vengeance not eating vengefully

Hey everyone. My sons pacman frog Vengeance does not seem to be eating. The only thing i could get him to eat was mealworms with there heads crushed. He refused all crickets and red wigglers. I have followed the size requirements for his meals but still nothing. Heat temp and humidity is bang on. He is in an out of the way area and three sides of his enclosure are blocked off. The frog is from japan a lime albino. Do they feed them diffrent or something. I have tried some of the things i have read on this forum and still no luck...yet!

I'm guessing you're tong feeding? I had trouble with my little guy at first. Check out this video, it helped me a ton.

    Answer these....

    1. Size of enclosure

    2. # of inhabitants - specifically other frogs and size differences

    3. Humidity

    4. Temperature

    5. Water - type - for both misting and soaking dish

    6. Materials used for substrate

    7. Enclosure set up i.e. plants (live or artificial), wood, bark and other materials.

    - How were things prepared prior to being put into the viv.

    8. Main food source

    9. Vitamins and calcium? (how often)

    10. Lighting

    11. What is being used to maintain the temperature of the enclosure

    12. When is the last time he/she ate

    13. Have you found poop lately

    14. A pic would be helpful including frog and enclosure (any including cell phone pic is fine)

    15. How old is the frog

    16. How long have you owned him/her

    17. Is the frog wild caught or captive bred

    18. Frog food- how often and if it is diverse, what other feeders are used as treats

    19. How often the frog is handled

    20. Is the enclosure kept in a high or low traffic area

    21. Describe enclosure maintenance (water changes, cleaning, etc)

    1) about 5 gal glass with plexi top
    2) no tankmates
    3) humidity alway between 80-88
    4) temp sittin normally at 30 degrees
    5) all water is distilled water
    6) coconut fibre substrate
    7) mini bonsai dish for water with "frog moss" in it to prevent drowning
    8) tank was up and steady as dar as temp/humidity for two days before he went into it
    9) he would only eat mealworms but they were dusted with Rep-cal with vit D every other feeding
    10) no direct lighting. only from the room
    11) temp supplied by zoo-med UTH placed on the side of tank
    12) as of now 2 days of no eating. Tried 3 times today no luck
    13) yes have found poop
    14) will try to post pic of viv
    15) not sure on the age. Bout 2" in length and width
    16) had the frog about 2 1/2 weeks
    17) captive bred
    18) tried him on crickets for several days no go. mealworms yes. Red wiggler worms no.
    19) the frog has only been handled twice for baths/soaks in semi warm distilled water
    20) the viv is in my room in a nook very low traffic/noise
    21) misted twice a day. Water changed daily and had not really had to spot clean yet.

Distilled water isn't appropriate for the soaking dish. Go with bottle spring or tap water if it's not too nasty (like the ph 8.0-9.0 stuff we get here sometimes). From what I understand, distilled basically causes water stress since it's water potential is so high.

Red wrigglers are bad feeders. They have a weird taste to them apparently. Try using canadian night crawlers. You can try crickets too if you rip off their jumping legs so they move slower.

Lower humidity so it stays between 70-80%.

    4) temp sittin normally at 30 degrees
Bring temp down a degree to 29C for day and 26C at night. Might need to get a controller for UTH, either a manual rehostat or an automatic thermostat.

    5) all water is distilled water
This is bad as Jeff stated. Distilled water will actually draw ions and minerals from frog and create a health issue. Myself question many bottled waters due to processes that make them unsuitable to frogs. Recommend using tap water treated with Seachem Prime. This is very important and should be done now.

    6) coconut fibre substrate

Remove the substrate mixed with distilled water and replace with new one mixed with dechlorinated tap. Mix so it's slightly damp and clumps in fist without dripping water out.

    7) mini bonsai dish for water with "frog moss" in it to prevent drowning
Fill water dish to frogs chin level and get rid of the moss which is an impaction hazard.

    9) he would only eat mealworms but they were dusted with Rep-cal with vit D every other feeding
Avoid mealworms since they are low in nutrition and an impaction hazard. Red Wriglers are not good either because they have a foul tasting slime. Can try night crawlers cut to frogs lenght from pointy end. Crickets should be gut loaded with carrots, lettuce, oats, and fish flakes. Insects should be sized same as distance within frogs eyes. Here are some dusting schedules you can follow: http://www.frogforum.net/food-feeder...schedules.html.

    11) temp supplied by zoo-med UTH placed on the side of tank
    See no. 4.

    12) as of now 2 days of no eating. Tried 3 times today no luck

See no. 5 & 9. Keep trying daily a few minutes before sunset. Pacmans are nocturnal.

    18) tried him on crickets for several days no go. mealworms yes. Red wiggler worms no.

    See no. 5 & 9.

    19) the frog has only been handled twice for baths/soaks in semi warm distilled water
See no. 5 & 7. Dechlorinated tap water for bath should be around 27C and changed daily. Since frog is low in electrolytes recommend give a Pedialyte (or similar baby electrolyte product) bath by mixing 90% dechlorinated tap (27C) with 10% Pedialyte to frogs chin depth. Leave frog in solution 20 minutes (can use a small critter keeper or plastic bowl with holes on top) to restore it's electrolyte balance.

    21) misted twice a day. Water changed daily and had not really had to spot clean yet.

Can use the distilled water to spray tank since it leaves no water spots in tank; but avoid the frog when doing so.
Hello Chant! Hope fixing the water issue and tweaking some of the parameters get your frog eating again. Here is a good care article with some more information: Frog Forum - Pacman and Horned Frogs - Ceratophrys - Care and Breeding. Good luck !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

Alright distilled water changed to purified tap water. humidity on the way down. He is still very active which i will assume is good. The two places i went two today had neither dew worms or crickets. Managed to get him to take half a super worm for now. Again thanks everyone for taking the time to send advice. Would hate if my misinformed research led to this lil guys demise.

Also, be sure to change his bedding with bedding expanded with treated water if you haven't already. If you used distilled water to expand it, remember he's sitting burrowed in it all day.

Hey everyone. Last night i managed to feed vengeance four dusted crickets which he destroyed as soon as i put them near him. I am hoping he keeps going. He looks healthy and i found a big poo in his water fish so i will assume this was a distilled water use mess up on my part. Thanks for all the help and advice everyone.
