Hi FF i have an 36'' x 18'' x 12'' tank that i picked up at a thrift store for $10, at first i wanted to put a ball python in it but without the sliding & locking lid i don't feel that it would be too secure. This time Ive planned to tip it on its side and make it a tank for arboreal herps, the footprint when on its side is 18'' x 12''. i might do the great stuff method and definitely add live plants.

Are looking more into reptiles or phibs? What is you spending limit on the animal?
my spending limit isnt too high on the animal maybe $150 at the very most for the animal. Im looking into amphibians more than reptiles because i have a glass top and i dont want to put a basking bulb too close to the glass. if it needs heating, i would use a heat mat.

I guess tree frogs would be an obvious suggestion.
Are you looking for something thats not so common, more of a challenge to keep or something more on the easy side? Or does it not mater?
I was thinking something between dart frogs or larger tree frogs.

I'm sure it would make a great looking dart enclosure. I'm not to sure which species are semi-arboreal. I believe thumbnails are but I could be wrong. Only dendro's I've had were tinc's. But they prefer to stay at ground level. So I'll leave the dart talk to someone else.
I've kept some mantellas in the past if you wanna look into those as well. Mantella laevigata seem to be pretty active and use every bit of their enclosure.
I know Dendrobates leucomelas is a good arboreal dart, Ive cared for mantellas and some thumbnail darts at the pet store, Ive seen some pretty wicked enclosures for the Santa Isabel darts in the Vancouver Aquarium. Ive really wanted to do Terribilis but they are banned hwere i live ): Ive also thought about Red eyes before.
