Purchasing Frogs

There are many online places to purchase yellow-bellied toads, they are so pretty which brings me to a question, I wonder if you can mix FBT's and Yellow Belly Toads?

EDIT; I looked on line, many places advertise yellow bellied toads but have "unavailable" on the website.

It's protected in pretty much the whole of Europe so they aren't very common.

Ive never seen them labled before at pet stores but i have seen brown fire belly toads.

This is the answer why they aren't offered much. The yellow belied species live in the most southern parts of my country. It's forbidden by law to buy or even have them in my country. But why do you want to buy the bombina variegata?

Because they seem really cool. I didn't know they were protected, but people in America seem to have them.

Although not on the IUCN Threatened List; B. variegata is protected in the Netherlands and other European countries. They are already extinct in Belgium and only one population exists in some of the other countries. Your best bet at forum; is to post a thread in the Wanted section and hope that a U.S. owner/breeder contacts you. Good luck !

Mentat is correct. They are classed as least concern which is funny considering they are protected. There are barely any in the Netherlands and the population in the Netherlands are all in the south. Your very unlikely to find any. However the Apennine yellow belly toad (Bombina pachypus) is classed as endangered so I wonder if anyone has ever kept any of them.

Actually, they are doing better now. There is someone very busy breeding them (with permission of the Dutch government) and he is reintroducing them in the wild. The population is growing, but it's still illegal to own them because there "native".

True, they are cool. People in America can have them because it's not a native animal (if that's the proper term for it). I hope you can buy some from a breeder that bred them in captivity.

*edit*: I know I can buy them in Germany. I will be attending the Winter Terraristika in Hamm, Germany. But it's a long way to the US of A for a frog, it's a high risk package to send in my honest opinion.
