They do actually have teeth on their upper jaw as do Pacman Frogs. Their odontoids which are the boney protrusions on the lower jaw are used as you stated for crushing and also impaling other frogs. Pacman Frogs actually have a never ending supply of upper teeth like a shark. When one breaks or falls out another is ready to take its place. Also only the tip of the tooth is what falls away. It is held on to the base of the jaw by fiberous membranes that of which name escapes me at the moment.

Definitely do NOT want an adult Pyxi to bite you. No fun there, but of course you've had quite a zoo so have been bitten by a variety of animals.
