So I posted on here about two weeks ago because I found a baby american toad and seeing as though he/she is so tiny, I was a tad bit worried, BUT here it is almost two weeks later and he/she is doing FABULOUS
Definitely has gotten a bit chubbier and I think has grown just a tad bit since I found him/her welp, here are some pictures - I was unable to upload some last week because my camera was in the shop and I had an ancient cellphone, but my camera is back and I got a new cellphone !
These are pictures from my cell !
OMG he is so, so damn cute, Its because of YOU Chelsea that I am now looking very actively for 2-3 American toads. : )
Good job Chelsea! That is a very cute Toadlet and I want one too !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
Where can I buy one? I am still researching my first frog/toad. Its way too late to find any outside. We've had heavy frosts here in Maine.
Thanks.
What a little cutie! Toads are, and I think always will be my favorite non-fuzzy creature. Now if it burrows underground, don't panic. Some of mine have gone underground for up to 7 months at a time, just make sure you keep the soil moist & keep fresh water and feeders available.

What a lil cutie, i found an american toad myself not to long ago. Have you figured if its a guy or gal? I thinks mines a girl but Im still a lil ify (this is the first toad Ive ever had). Also how often do you feed em? Do you dust with calcium and whatnot? I just started dusting myself.
What a cutie! It's been COLD here in MA so glad he or she is safe with you. Can't tell if it's a boy or girl when they're that teeny.
And i'd feed daily, dusting with calcium and a vitamin supplement but I forget the recommended schedule for tiny ones, tho I know you never do both on same day and use more calcium than vitamins while they're growing. I believe I dusted with calcium almost daily and reptivite twice a week when Banjo was little (tho she wasn't that little when I found her). Now that she's more then doubled in size an I've had her for over a year, I do calcium every other feeding and vit once a week.

Im still looking, I don't want to take one from its natural habitat but I live in the Cotoctin Mountains and I cant find a single Toad. LOL
Aw, I've been on here for a year and I have zero reputation. I do sort of know what I'm saying tho! Ask my toads.

I saw ONE before I found Banjo on sidewalk. It was hopping away onto boyfriend's lawn so I just watched. Then we had some living by garage over the summer and they were my outdoor pets (I'd feed em) but they've gone off to hibernate already. So next spring, try leaving a light on outside and they'll come to dine. Hopefully.

Anything for you !
I didnt know you should dust and feed them everyday when they r young. Im not sure how old my gal is but Im guessing a year-ish. Shes about the size of a toonie and from what Ive read American Toads grow to be about 3-4 inch long. I usually feed her once every other day but Im gonna change that to once a day and dust every other day. I plan to pick up a multi vitamin next weekend and add that to the routation. What would be a good feeding schedule for a young toad? (is when to dust, what to feed, etc)
Im looking forward to the summer time when shes not hibernating anymore, havent seen her since it got cold outside
I dunno what a toonie is, but banjo was 1.25in i think and now 3.5in. They grow fast. Ukulele (my adopted love) came to me about 4in and is at least 5yrs old. A boy toad won't grow as large.
Offer food but remember that she might not be interested when it's cold. You could try warming the room, or just let it be since it's normal. Banjo didn't hibernate last year, and this will be my 1st winter with Uki, so curious what they'll do. We also moved so they're in the basement (not a creepy basement, and water heater keeps it from getting too cold). They are such chubs, i think they could survive all winter burrowed. But i'd miss them too.

A toonie is a 2 dollar coin in Canada
I named her Ms Piggy and she does eat, I put her in a container with 2 crickets and they were gone before I had a chance to turn around lol
Id say that she is about an inch or so long, Ive noticed that she has gotten much chubbier since ive had her and Im wried about over feeding although I dont think I am
Ive been leaving her be as much as possible so she can get used to her new surroundings
A fat toad, is a happy toad.

I certainly hope so! I know a fat bellied toad makes me happy.
If she's an inch, feed away. It's great that she's comfortable enough to have an appetite. These days most feedings are monitored since they're worms or fed from the tongs, and except for wax worms, I go til they sit there blinking and swallowing rather than eyeing the food. Tho over the summer they both seemed like they'd be willing to eat 3x their body weight.

I've always let mine eat as much as they want to. Even as adults, I still put out food daily for them, some times they eat, some times they don't.

My little toad buried under a week ago. They are eating machines lol. He ate two small crickets and like 35 bean beetles. I like to drop them in front of him cause it is fun to watch him eat. When he finally started to slow down he was so pudgy I thought he might burst lol.
