    Default ID please

So I went to the pet store today for a light, and saw this. They had it labeled a pacman frog and were selling it for 34 dollars. The man had no idea what he had and actually marked the price down to 25 for me when I showed interest. I thought it was young female pixie, or a dwarf. Can someone give me a proper ID? thanks! what a deal!

It's Pyxicephalus adspersus (Giant African Bullfrog). Either a youngster or a female.

That's pretty cool that you got him to haggle with you. I can never seem to find any locally owned pet-shops around here. All corporations that won't do that for their customers.

    Have fun with him/her.

I think he actually thought that me knowing it wasnt a pacman was the problem, and he was trying to cut me a deal. which is hilarious because whenever I see pixies at rep expos and shows there like 65 and up. Its cool their not a corporation but its pretty terribly run. Their animals can get pretty hagard, although I did get a great rabbit there. When he was packaging the frog for me he dunked a paper towel in his little fish pond setup that had huge coi in it. I actually had to ask him to not use that and get some fresh water from the back, he was not very chipper about it.

I've never really been to a reptile expo, but there's this place called the "7 Mile Fair" which is a huge fairgrounds for basically cheap new and used items. Sometimes I can find small animals there including reptiles and amphibians. Just like in any other business, there's always a handful or two of the salespeople who are in it for the money, not for the animals. Like a car dealer or any other profession that they're paid on a commission basis. It sure does give the actual honest sellers out there a bad name when you come across people like that.

But judging by the photos you posted, it looks like he's in great shape and healthy. I'd like to see a photo of your set up for him/her if you don't mind. I was thinking about getting a pacman, but I'm not 100% sure if I should or not. Now I know that this bullfrog is not a pacman, but the set up should be quite similar if not close?

    Again, neat looking frog.

Yeah similar setup. I have it in a temporary 5 gallon for now, just damp coco fiber with a false bottom on one side and water on the other side, very simple. Basicly you give them enough substrate to bury themselves. A pacman is the same deal, enough substrate to burrow and a water dish they can rest in that goes up to about mouth level. When it grows up a bit il move it into a nice tank with more room and maybe some plants, though its hard to plant with both species because they uproot everything. If you really like pacman frogs go for it their easy to care for, but between the two I would much rather a pixie.
