I was just wondering if it's a problem to have springtails everywhere in my enclosure? They are visible underneath the leaf litter but now they are climbing on my wood features as well. I have a 18x18x24 tank with a false bottom with only one WTF in it so I don't think they will get eaten by anything. Just need to know if they can become an infestation & if I need to do anything to reduce the population & if so what??? Thanx
A large springtail population can indicate lots of food for them in enclosure. Don't think they will hurt the frog unless lots of them climb on it and frogs gets stressed. If you want to control springtail population; introducing other detritivores (i.e. isopods) and/or increased spot cleaning will help. Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
if it's a new vivarium and you put springtails in that's normal than to have a great population of springtails at the beginning. let them some time and it's suppose to see them decreasing. If not start cleaning a little bit the viv and they should decrease.
