I would like to breed live bearers to feed the fry to my phibs ... However the only tank that could support them is the ADF tank and I do not want them to have too much competition.
Hi,
I wouldn´t keep live bearers with ADFs. The frogs are very slow feeders and although you might be able to offer enough food for the frogs, it´s almost impossible to prevent the fish from overfeeding in this situation, at least in a relatively small tank.
Amphibians kept:
9.10.3 Hymenochirus boettgeri
2.4.0 Xenopus laevis
0.1.0 Hypselotriton orientalis
3.0.0 Hyloxalus azureiventris
4.1.0 Pipa parva
2.1.2 Bombina orientalis
1.0.0 Ceratophrys cranwelli
2.2.0 Bombina orientalis
Even if I tong feed the frogs?
Hm, maybe that´worth a try, but I wouldn´t be surprised if the fish steal the food from the tong.
When keeping fish together with ADF, the frogs most likely won´t show their mating behaviour including calling and harmless wrestling matches between males. Even if you don´t want to breed them, it´s really fun to watch, so I would reconsider this plan.

Its not a plan just an idea ... I don't NEED live bearers
Would it be ok to put a few shrimp in with the ADF? I love Shrimp and did not think they would compete a ton with the frogs. The frogs will be being fed from a bowl which they are currently learning.
Hi,
peaceful shrimp species such as cherry shrimps make a great addition for ADF tanks. However, the frogs might eat the baby shrimps, but that´s a good treat if you don´t mind. In heavily planted tanks, there will always be some shrimp fry that manages to survive.

Thats great to knowI do not mind if the frogs eat some, I only have access to ghost shrimp currently anyway which are sold as feeders.
Hm, I wouldn´t keep ghost shrimp with ADFs as they have pretty large claws. But dwarf shrimp species generally are colourful and peaceful, always fun to watch
I keep my ADFs with cherry shrimps and Blue Tiger OE, never had any problems. Especially cherry shrimps are quite cheap and easy to keep, also they have a high reproduction rate- they make very compatible tankmates for your frogs.

Really? Our ghosts are so teeny here I have never seen them attack anything. We don't have cherries here and when I did find them they were $10 each.
$10?? Wow! I got mine for 0,5 Euros (~0.7 $) each at a local fish club. Can´t you order some from private breeders, maybe via internet?
If you want to try the ghost shrimp, please be very attentive. The frogs do have a delicate skin, so even if they are unobservant for a short moment, there is a certain risk. I don´t mean that the shrimps need to be aggressive, but they might hurt a frog just by their normal foraging behaviour.

If anyone looks like they are being harmed I will put in a divider![]()
I want to try my hands with something less hard to find ... I would hate to kill something I worked so hard to find.
I got access to some cherries so I will be getting those next week![]()
