Sick grey tree frog?

Hey guys,

My grey tree frog has recently become ill, or so it appears. He's actually been rather thin lately, but I attributed it to a shortage of food rather than a medical condition, and so I simply increased his diet. But after my green tree frog mysteriously--and rapidly--thinned and died (over a matter of two days), I am now really worried. I have him in a quarantine tank now.

His symptoms: very thin. He shows no outward signs of disease, and seems to be eating and defecating regularly--although his stool looks sort of scattered and he seems to take a bit longer to swallow his crickets. He is still just as jumpy, though.

Does anyone know what this is?

Austin didn't you just have an ADF die on you as well? What horrible luck! Call Dr. Fry. His number is at the link I provided. I think... not to sure but (getting thin and runny poops sounds like a internal parasite) Please inquire with Dr. Fry and ask for metronidizole. This should fix the problem. I would also highly suggest sending in a FECAL sample to get as accurate results as possible! All frogs do get parasites. With the amount of frogs you have I would seriously inquire about getting the All of the first aid kit listed on the website through him. They are relatively cheap and you dont need a Dr. Visit. They are proven and effective on frogs. Best of luck to you sir. =) I would also at this point consider about putting in him a quarantine tank.

I agree with you.....he is thin...sorry

If you do not have a near-by herp vet. You need to email Dr Frye.
He will likely need you to overnight a poop so he is able to a fecal sample on it; then mail you the appropriate medication to treat your frog.
Keep this frog in a hospital tank with dampened paper towels ( de-clorinated water) , water dish , dust his feeders, don't ration his food.
Maintain proper temp and requirements in the hospital tank. Change the paper ......minimum every other day and the water dish daily !!!!( so make yourself lots of de-chor water in leftover gallon/water container(s). Wash you hands! or use powerless /disposable gloves. Let him rest - undisturbed during the day....don't handle him unless it is absolutely necessary.

If he has a parasitic infection that goes untreated ........you really risk losing him This is VERY easy to treat !

When emailing Dr Frye include the measurement of the frog ( snout to vent) ,whether the frog is captive bread or wild caught, how long you have had him and the photos you have posted here.

If you should get a medication that needs to be dropped on his back? apply it AFTER he goes back to sleep so he is not stress by being near you. As much as we want to think are frogs like us --------they don't !!!

Hi Lynn,

Thanks so much for the info. I have him in a quarantine tank with paper towels and a dish of water. He is still his same ol' self (minus the sleeping on the ground bit), but he is still very thin.

I emailed Dr. Frye everything you told me, so now I just pray and hope.
