Hello and good day to all
I'm new here and was hoping for some answers from you nice people. Well i live in Iceland and juste got my first frog. Its a whites tree frog. i have it in a 63L(16Gallon) "cage" and im having trouble keeping it warm. The heat here is around 19-22c° or 66-72F. Witch is to cold for the frog i have a heating mat under the cage. So heres my question what is the best method to get it hotter? should i get a light bulb for the frog? what light bulb?
other tips and tricks appreciated
In hope for a quick response best regards TraxData
Sounds like you need a heat bulb. Make sure the frog can't touch it though. Covering the top of the tank with tin foil can keep heat in. Heat mats aren't very good at warming the air temp so your best bet is a low wattage heat bulb.
Was that quick enough.![]()
Hey jack
Thx for the quick reply way faster than i tought haha. Would you recommend this light bulb Reptistar T8 15W ? or is that not even a heating light bulb? sorry if this question is dumb hehe![]()
Best regards TraxData
Not a dumb question don't worry. That's not a heat bulb. Here's a good page to look at: Exo Terra : Infrared Basking Spot I can't tell you which one is best because there are variables that change in everyone's enclosures and temps where they live etc but you can experiment to find the perfect bulb. It doesn't need to be red but a bulb that isn't too bright is best.
Thx Jack for all your help

Hello and welcome to FF! As Jack mentioned, T8s (and all fluorescents) are inefficient heat producers. Depending on the enclosure type, to bring up the temperature to 30C during day (can drop 5-6C at night) will require lots of heat. That heat pad under the tank can create you a problem. Sometimes White's will bury (i.e. when stressed) and frog could get burned if it does so near the pad.
My first choice would be a ceramic heat emitter (around 100-150W) in a Fluker's Dome with dimmer. If using another dome, will need either a rheostat (manual) or thermostat (auto) to control the heat output. If an emitter is not available, second choice would be a red bulb because you will have to run day and night. Either solution will dry the air in enclosure, so will need to spray more to achieve 50-65% humidity. Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
