Females and males together without breeding?

Hi all
I currently have two smallish females in a 40 breeder, and someone emailed me about three unsexed ACFs who badly need a home. I'm offering them one of course, but I'm worried about accidental breeding. The two females I have have been known to lay eggs and eat them (I haven't seen it yet, but their previous owners have had them for a long time) and since I rescue, the last thing I need is tadpoles bopping around.
I know I'd have to isolate the newbies for awhile anyways, but I'm wondering, if I upgraded the main tank, could males and females live together without breeding? Is there anything you have to do to initiate or prevent breeding? I can have two tanks going if I must, but I'd prefer to just have one large one. I think I have a pretty good setup going for the girls, they have fine sand and live plants and reptomin pellets (with the odd cricket or earth worm) and I'd love it if these guys could enjoy it too.

I believe cooler water stimulates breeding behavior. So try keeping your frogs on the warmer side,, around 72F.

Hi,

as already mentioned by the previous owners, the frogs tend to eat their eggs. This is part of their natural diet, very nutritious and no reason to feel bad. If they spawn, just do not feed for a few days and they will take care of the problem themselves. If you don´t want any tadpoles to be eaten, you can remove the eggs and freeze or boil them before disposal.
Another important note: make sure that all frogs are about the same size, otherwise the smaller ones may end up as food.

Hi, RockyGurly, My experience with breeding has been self-learned, lol. When I had a huge tank of frogs they did not breed, only when I had 2 to 4 together. I keep my tanks around 72 degrees. I always had to remove eggs to smaller tank and waited until they were fully developed frogs before putting them back in the large tank. I have always used a filter pump in the large tank but only a bubbler in the egg/tadpole tank. Needless to say I love my frogs, but only have 2 at present. Hope this helps some.
