    Default new from Texas!

hey everyone i wanting to gather some information about frogs, vivariums, care, food ect...
i currently have a saltwater reef tank that as you could probably assume requires time, love, money and patient lol!
specifically, i want to keep dart frogs for their colors. i was hoping to keep this in my room, but i was wondering if dart frogs croak? like noticeably loud and constant? how do i feed dart frogs? how often usually?

one of the proposed spaces could fit a tank about 12- 18 wide so how are the opinions on something like this? (Exo Terra 12 x 12 x 18" Glass Terrarium or Dart Frog Terrariums - Protean Terrarium)
what kind of lighting is required for most plants?

for design i was hoping to achieve something like these ( VIVARIUMS) with some wood and live plants. so far i know i need a drainage layer, divider, topsoil, plants, wood. is putting a system like this together usually expensive? I have a budget of 100-150$ for the system.

    any info would help alot!

what kind of care is involved? cleaning the front glass, maintaining humidity...

Hello and welcome to FF! Well, if setting up a vivarium for darts recommend an 18 in. ExoTerra cube as minimum size. That will put you down for close to $100 and the rest of equipment, plants, etc. can easily ring you another $100 or even more if going with fancy gear like controllers, foggers, water pumps, etc. An option is to watch your local Craiglist for any offers on used enclosures, lights, etc.

Your initial time will go into set-up, building false bottom, background wall, seeding substrate inhabitants, and planting. Then you mist, watch plants grow, trim any if required and let things settle down for 30 days or so.

While those 30 days are going by, you get your frogs and set them up in a quarantine type set-up (yep, another enclosure) but this one can be smaller (maybe an ExoTerra Tall Nano) with damp unprinted paper towels for substrate, a water dish, and some silk or similar plants for decor. There you will feed and observe forgs for any possible problems or diseases for 30 days. If all is good then you transfer the frogs to their vivarium.

In vivarium will need to check out all powered equipment are working right daily, clean and refill water dish, feed, and spot clean glass or plants as needed. In the Care Article section, there are 3 Dart Frog articles that go into great detail about keeping and raising them. Good luck !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

    Thanks for the info!
The price isn't that bad, its a lot better that that of an automated aquarium.
I will run up to my local store and look around. Hopefully they offer quarantined frogs and maybe some running setups.

Where do most people place their vivariums? I had hopes of putting it in my room
