Default An update a year in the making (pics)

Hello again everyone. Just thought id give everyone a quick update just because it seems to be a common theme we all notice of amphibian keepers losing interest in their frogs which is sad. Although I havent been on the forums in a long time, Ive continued the excellent care of my frogs.

Here is my Pyxie. Now, I know more uptight keepers will have a problem with the size of the feeder Im using. People know that I am not shy of feeding prey items they would encounter in the wild. Here, my African Bullfrog is eating a large African Soft Furred Rat which it would happily encounter in the wild. I dont do it often, and their staple is nightcrawlers, but once a month they all get large prey items like the controversial crayfish my Rococo enjoyed. (She is doing fine btw and ill include a pic of her as well.)
As for the Rat (which is actually a large breed of mouse) fighting back, I had a large forceps at the ready if it did. My Pyxie although is EXTREMELY savage and fiesty when it comes to feeding time so the fight back was virtually non existent.

Edit: On the other side of this tank out of frame is a much larger water dish that he can easily submerge in. Its actually a giant salad serving bowl since they dont make dishes nearly large enough for him lol.

Yes Lija I saw the guy and his Dwarves. He had them last year as well. I feel bad for a lot of the animals at the TARAS show. He had some of those Malaysian Frogs that you got from JJs last year as well.

Oh and Rocco is about 10 inches and the Pyxie probably around 8 but solid as a TANK.

Yes Rocco is a female Rococo Toad, despite the name lol. One of the only ones in Calgary. I was very lucky to get her.

If you want a good bowl that's big enough for him then get a zoomed x-large corner bowl. They're definitely big enough because it's what I use.

Ive seen those ones and considered them. The main issue is the price, I think its around $55 at the pet stores here in Calgary. Also while my Pyxie isnt all that long SVL, he is VERY robust. I dont know if even the X Large corner bowl would be large enough for comfortable full submersion which I believe it vital with Pyxies.

Man that frog looks great!! And this pic also gave me a WAY better idea of what to use as a mister instead of the one I use. A febreeze bottle like the one there is the perfect mister, it will come out like actual "mist"( similar to the reptifogger mist) and not just water spray. Just gotta rinse it really well!

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Don't use anything that contained any chemicals! No matter how well you wash them it is impossible to get all out. I recently got pump spray, awesome stuff! You pump it out and it sprays itself, it is similar to exoterra but actually works in comparison lol

Yay! Rocco looks as good as I remember!

Lijas right, even if you wash it out lots and lots it still won't get every chemical out. If you want a really good sprayer then get the Lucky Raptile Maxi Sprayer. It's a one that you pump then it mists continuously. It's a bit expensive for a spray bottle but I was lucky to find one in a sale. The nozzle is on a bendy tube so you can reach anywhere in the terrarium.

Oh really? I thought after washing it several times and let it dry out for couple weeks it should be fine. Anyway, I have never seen this bottle, how much is it?

Chemicals can infuse with plastics and do not wash out. This is why it is recommended not to use bleach on plastics.
