I returned and there are some baby salamanders left in the water here. Yay for me, I can keep some of these salamanders after all!.
I have my work cut out for me to design them a suitable terrarium now. For now, the planned housing for the salamanders is a 30 gal. wide tank. Not sure how many of these larger salamander species this tank will house comfortably as adults, what their normal mortality rates are as babies is or in fact how many of these salamanders are left out on the patio.
Even though they turned out to be a more unusual and rare species, I am also partly disappointed that they are not Eastern Newts. I had my "heart set" on keeping some Eastern Newts( red efts). They are so pretty.
Have you checked out Caudata.org? a 30 will hold 3 individuals of the larger species
I would love to hear how this went.
