I have a 40 gallon long tank! I was wondering what would be the best way to set it up for them, and could I get some fire newts to go with them safely. Thank you for any help![]()
You could probably fit up to 12 toads in the 40 gallon. the best way to house them is making
the setup half land half water by sloping gravel to one side and using rocks or cork bark to divide
the tank, a filter and floating plants would do well on the water side. But be cautious of housing
fire belly newts and fire belly toads together, the two can poison eachother possibly.
Best of luck!

I was thinking about it but I do not think I will the pet store wants $100 for the newts. I do not remember them being that much before lol. I am thinking about splitting it in the middle with something and the using a ramp to get to the land from the water. What filter is the best to use. When i had them before I changed half the water every week instead of filter.
Are you kidding me?! $100 for fire bellies? usually ive seen them for $10-$15 or they are mislabled, i would reccomend a tetra filter and yet better a tetrafauna filter with a lid, they work great and arent too pricey, with the filter a 10% water change weekly is good, my fire bellies always chirp their hearts out when they get a water change![]()

FBT should be kept alone. I've read about keeping small fast fish with them in a tank with a large water section; but it's a risk to the fish (FBT toxins in water). Also, you have to consider the risk that fish might carry parasites that could affect frogs.
For inside aquarium filters, prefer the Supreme Ovation. Recomend over-filtering frog's water around 10X the filter rating; so the Ovation 1000 can easily handle 8-10 actual gallons. If water feature area will be smaller than that; there are smaller models like the Ovation 700 which is good for around 5-6 total gallons. To estimate the actual volume of water, need to measure the area you will use for your "pond" and enter into this site for calculation. Good luck!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
My new fbt tank it is a work in progess.
This is sweet! Love the presenter lol
DO i need a water heater in it? My house stays about 68 or lower in the winter we dont have a very good heater![]()
