Please help! I caught a bullfrog tadpole last week or so and she has been living in a ten gallon tank with a heater and strong filter. The tank has TONS of hiding places and plants. But my tadpole has been really inactive and I don't think she's eating the boiled frozen lettuce I've prepared for her. I haven't even seen her move, and she just sits in a corner all day. I really love her and I don't know what I've been doing wrong. What can I do? I'm afraid she'll die.
Please help!
Need some basic aquarium information like temperature, pH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels. Also, what did you use to dechlorinate water?
What kind of filter do you have on tank and is the media cycled?
Did tadpole eat anything at all while you had it and what was last time it ate? Have you tried offering other foods (i.e. veggie type fish flakes or pellets)?
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
I just noticed back legs forming and coming out, what now?
Carlos's questions needs to be answered before we can guess a diagnosis for you on the condition of the tadpole. I would offer more variety diet and make sure you dechlorinated the water though.
I have no idea what nitrite is but I have ammonia drops. I used regular dechrolinate drops and the temp is room temp, what's pH, and I'm using the filter that came with it so I don't know what it is. I just tried feeding her fish flakes, and she was eating them and I've seen droppings too. I've noticed webbed feet starting to come out too
I probably wouldn't worry too much. Big bullfrog tads usually don't move around very much. At least mine never did.
Bring a water sample to your local pet store. They should provide free water testing. =) That should include PH and nitrate levels.
Thanks
Good news guys, I drained the water a bit cuz she's growing legs and I see her going to the top for air, and she's been eating the fish flakes so I think she's going to be ok after all
Hi .
Here's some education for you about the nitrogen cycle in an aquarium. It will teach you about what happens within the water and how to manage the water quality.
http://www.cs.duke.edu/~narten/faq/cycling.html
Please ask questions after reading the article. Bullfrogs need a pond area in their homes so you will need to learn how to cycle an aquarium or pond area and how to regulate and decrease toxins. There are also some easy to follow YouTube videos.
Hope this helps .
