Talking Brown Cranwellis Photoshoots (Pic Heavy)

Here are photos of two more of our babies from Ivory Reptiles. They were green as babies, but have both darkened to pretty browns. They are both big, chubby girls!

This is "six spot" brown. Her top spots on her back are actually split into two spots each, hence six spot. She always thinks she needs more food. Even when her mouth is full, she is already looking for the next worm!

And then there is this beauty. She is quite the little powerhouse. She has turned into more of high quality brown. I have always liked how big her spots are.

Oh, and here are both of them as babies. Yes, I swear they are the same frogs! You can tell by the markings, although the colors are drastically different. But one of the things I love about Pacs is that you never know exactly how they will turn out!

Ha ha!!!! Where is Bobby at a time like this .

What do you suppose the genetic makeup is for any brown-turning cranwelli? I am figuring the brown gene is dominant 3 to 1 ? Just speculating .

Say, using the xy genetic model? Taking 2 browns, 2 greens....would you say 1 of 4 will hold a good percentage of green per 4 offspring? Just wondering .

Hey Grif, stop dying your babies with sharpies!!!

LOL, I kid I kid. What a change though, the babies could probably slide by as a samurai morphs specially the one on the right...if you think about it I wonder how many people have gotten ripped off lol.

the top one reminds me of my Zuma; eats and eats then eats some more. Both your frogs are gorgeous. I had no idea their colors change so drastically.

I think a lot of it depends on their environment too. They adapt to match their surroundings so they force the brown pigment to become dominant, but many do turn brown or tan. True greens are from a more wet area so they are green in order to match the more lush green vegetation.

True, and most of us do house ours on coco fiber.

I'm curious, do you remember at what size you realised they were turning brown? Would you happen to have some more pictures of them when they were younger?

Hmmm, seems I'm still not in the clear then. My little guy is 2.3" right now and still looks pretty green however. I do notice how compared to older pictures, alot of the whiteish colour has become more dominant, his sibling also has the same.

This is crazy, just unbelievable how their colours changes. Very pretty ladies!
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!

Then in that case I demand Zoo Med to create a green/blue eco earth substrate so our frogs look more exotic!! I mean heck, even hamsters got all these colorful beddings!

I'd be all for that! Also Grif, the sibling is showing even more tan colour. I have to admit, watching them growup and morph colours is teaching me alot for the future.
I never knew these frogs were such chameleons, because well, it's not like my first albino was going to morph colours.

So maybe if we follow this pattern....next baby I get will be a very dark brown color so when he grows up, ends up being a bright green lol.

I always tell people who buy our frogs that we cannot guarantee that they will not change in color......but THIS change is just stunning!! Thanks for sharing the pictures!!!

They certainly are amazing! And we love them! They were little Easter eggs with green foil on the outside and chocolate on the inside!
