kingsnake.com Classifieds: WOW- super cool frog- Nectophrynoides
First time I have ever seen this species offered for sale in the USA... Unfortunately if the online data I find online is correct it seems to be a CITES appendix I species so it probably isn't legal... Probably just slipped in with a large Tanzanian shipment. I have contact the seller to see if I can find out what is up... lol
I saw that a while ago. A bit pricey for me, but it's interesting.
Ha... It must have been illegal alright, the add has been axed already...
Makes you not want to buy anything from that seller.
I wonder what will happen to the toad now... Assuming the dealer didn't actually know he had an appendix one animal(and I assume he didn't because if he did it would be really dumb to post it for sale on kingsnake) where does he go from here? I hope it isn't just quietly disposed of because of the potential legal hassle of doing anything else with it...
I don't things work that smoothly. If he tries to give it to a zoo the feds will bust his business and hassle him a lot I bet. Unfortunately that's how things work. Once you end up with an illegal animal I don't think there is an easy or safe way out especially if your a business. That is why I hope it isn't quietly disposed of as I think that is the only easy way out... Of course it all depends on who axed the kingsnake add too, if he axed it himself because he read my message he might be ok, but if kingsnake axed it because they realized it was illegal he probably is in hot water already.
In case anyone is interested in avoiding the business when they list other things It was "snakes at sunset" out of Miami florida. I wasn't going to post the business name because I initially thought it may have mistakenly come in with a larger shipment but after doing a little online research I found out the owner, Michael Barrera, has had connections with smuggling before. Probably not a mistake then, though I can't imagine what he was thinking when he posted an Appendix I animals for sale on kingsnake... Dumb...
Yes, Nectophrynoides viviparus is CITES listed, as talked about in our Meet the Frog article on this species: FrogForum - Meet the Frog: Morogoro Tree Toad, Nectophrynoides viviparus.

Yeah, I just noticed that. I was goingto delete my post, but since you commented it, I won't. That will teach me to read all the post before commenting. D'oh!
